Women Helping Each Other
Women Helping Each Other began in 1990 around a kitchen table as five battered women found support with each other. It has since moved on to become a two-part interactive, instructional and self-help group. The program, expanded to help all women become aware of the cycle of violence, remains focused on prison outreach. It reaches five correctional institutions: Parkhouse Community, Jefferson, Florida, Levy, and Broward.
We are always looking for volunteers: Caring women who are willing to commit to being a positive role model, who are able to listen, and who are dedicated to stopping violence against women and children. Volunteers often find they are rewarded by reaching out and helping someone develop a better way of life, free from the power and control of abuse. Any possible volunteer who wants to participate as an instructor at the prisons must submit to a clearance check through law enforcement. It does take time and effort to participate in this program.
